SHAPE America — Society of Health and Physical Educators serves as the voice for 200,000+ health and physical education professionals across the United States. The organization’s extensive community includes a diverse membership of health and physical educators, as well as advocates, supporters, and 50 state affiliate organizations. 

Since its founding in 1885, the organization has defined excellence in physical education. For decades, SHAPE America’s National Standards for K-12 Physical Education have served as the foundation for well-designed physical education programs across the country. Additionally, the organization helped develop and owns the National Health Education Standards. 

SHAPE America provides programs, resources and advocacy that support an inclusive, active, kinder, and healthier school culture, and champions health and physical educators at every level, from preschool to university graduate programs. 

Position SUMMARY: 

Leads sales outreach and relationship development with key stakeholders in the health and physical education field to drive revenue and expand SHAPE America’s reach. This position is focused on identifying needs and matching those with SHAPE America’s professional learning solutions, including workshops, trainings, convention opportunities, and membership. Utilizes knowledge about the HPE profession to support the design, development, and implementation of impactful programs and resources. This position plays a critical role in identifying field needs and aligning SHAPE America solutions to advance educator practice, student well-being, and organizational growth. Approximately 60% of the role will be focused on external outreach and sales, and 40% on program development and implementation. 

Supervision: 

Reports to the Director of Educational Content and Programs. 

Nature and Scope of Work: 

1. Strategic Outreach, Sales and Lead Generation, and Solutions Development  

Drives revenue growth by identifying, cultivating, and converting leads for SHAPE America’s professional development offerings, with a strong focus on building relationships with key decision-makers.  

Cultivates and maintains strong, strategic relationships with state leaders, district coordinators, and other key decision-makers in health and physical education to introduce SHAPE America’s professional development offerings and solutions.  

Leads targeted needs assessments—through focus groups, listening sessions, surveys, and meetings—to uncover programmatic gaps, understand local and state priorities, and successfully promote and position SHAPE America’s resources, professional development trainings, memberships, and products. 

With a sales-oriented approach, collaborates closely with internal teams to pursue and secure bookings for professional development trainings and related offerings. This position will work with colleagues to achieve defined revenue goals while expanding SHAPE America’s reach and impact nationwide. 

Tracks outreach activities, relationship-building efforts, and sales opportunities to ensure consistent follow-up, effective pipeline management, and data-informed decision-making. Synthesizes feedback from the field into actionable insights that inform program and product refinement, marketing strategies, and organizational growth planning, ensuring SHAPE America remains responsive, market-driven, and trusted as a leader in the field. 
 

2. Content Expertise & Implementation Support 

Utilizes subject matter knowledge in health education, physical education, and physical activity, providing leadership and technical assistance to support the development of valuable and meaningful resources. Collaborates with SHAPE America teams and partners to develop guidance documents, toolkits, and training resources that facilitate standards-based instruction and equitable student outcomes. 

3. Program & Resource Development 

Helps facilitate the creation of high-quality, standards-aligned instructional materials, including activities, lesson plans, and implementation guides for PK-12 health and physical education teachers. May review and contribute to SHAPE America publications and professional learning content to help ensure alignment with organizational priorities and relevance to current practice. 

4. Partnerships & External Engagement 

Represents SHAPE America at national and state conferences, external meetings, and partner convenings to build relationships, promote SHAPE America offerings, and remain current on field trends.  

5. Administrative Responsibilities and Other Duties 

Maintains all relevant files, standard operating procedures, correspondence, and documentation to ensure organized and transparent operations. Performs other duties as assigned to advance SHAPE America’s strategic goals. 

Travel: 

This position requires travel to SHAPE America’s National Convention & Expo, annual staff retreat, state affiliate conferences (particularly in the fall months), and other meetings throughout the year. Expected travel is 20-25% of the position, with heavier travel in the fall months for state conferences and spring travel for the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in health education, physical education, public health, education or related field – or equivalent experience in a related field. 

  • Demonstrated experience building and managing strategic relationships with education leaders, district coordinators, and other decision-makers in a sales-oriented environment. 

  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals in a consultive sales setting. 

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in health education, physical education, education program management, or related areas. 

  • Strong understanding of PK-12 health and physical education standards, instructional best practices, and implementation challenges. 

  • Proven ability to identify customer needs and align solutions to drive engagement and sales, ideally within a nonprofit or education-focused organization. 

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders. 

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including tracking outreach, managing pipelines, and meeting revenue goals. 

  • Ability to travel as needed (anticipated to be 20 - 25% of the time) to conferences and meetings. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience in sales, business development, or partnership development within the education, nonprofit, or association sector. 

  • Knowledge of national and state-level policy trends in health education and physical education. 

  • Familiarity with CRM systems to track outreach and relationship management activities. 

Location: 

SHAPE America is a fully remote organization, must have the ability and space to effectively work remotely. 

Schedule: 

Typical schedule is Monday – Friday, with half-day Fridays, approximately 33.75 hours per week. This position will need to adjust their schedule based on the ability to meet and interact with the key decision-makers.
